Hi, I'm Craig.
I grew up on a family farm in Putnam County, Indiana. We kept a big garden, and I spent summers picking sweet corn for market. That's where I learned that farm work runs on the weather and the season, not the clock, and that the selling part always gets squeezed in at the end of a long day.
After college I joined the sales and marketing team at Traders Point Creamery, the organic grass-fed dairy in Zionsville. I helped get their milk and yogurt onto shelves at stores like Whole Foods, Fresh Thyme, and Natural Grocers.
Then I owned Wildwood Market, an independent grocery in Indianapolis built around local produce and food from nearby farms. Running a store teaches you fast what gets people in the door: a good email, a post at the right time, a sign that says what's fresh this week. I also helped my wife run her flower shop, which leaned on local and seasonal flowers.
These days I build online stores and run email and ads for food brands that ship across the country. Cultivate Local is where I bring that work back to small farms and food businesses, because that's where I started and where I think it helps the most.
You work with me
When you hire Cultivate, you work directly with me from the first call to launch day. When a job calls for a photographer or a developer, I bring in people I trust and tell you up front who they are and what it costs.
How I work
- I'll tell you if I'm not the right fit. If you need something I don't do, I'll say so and try to point you to someone who does.
- Prices in writing before we start. No surprise bills.
- Your accounts, in your name. Your site, store, and email list belong to you.
- Built so you can run it. I'd rather set you up to handle the day-to-day than have you wait on me to change your pickup hours.
- I answer within one business day, Tuesday through Friday.
